When I first moved to Colorado I was 23 years old. I never knew that moving to Boulder would completely change my life. The first Winter I was here in 2007 was one of the heaviest snowfall winters Colorado had had in a long time. I remember it snowed like 4 feet in a week at one point. It was super fun but also very shocking. Coming from Los Angeles, Colorado winters were a first for me. I didn’t realize how much such a huge change would have in my life. I was young and had yet to find out about living a healthy lifestyle so my diet was poor, I did not have a regular exercise routine or yoga practice, and so my health was negatively affected. I gained 15 pounds, I became depressed, I dealt with almost constant heart burn and I was to say the least very unhappy.
But I knew in the back of my mind, that the change was necessary and that I was on the right path. So I decided to try yoga one day. I didn’t know of any studios so I just looked online and found Core Power Yoga. I took my first class and my life starting transforming from that moment on in a positive direction. I realized how important it was to have a Spiritual practice, which I was missing. And along with that, I learned that leading a healthy lifestyle involved more than just exercising. I learned through the yoga community, how important it is to eat the right kinds of food. And now 8 years later, my life is magical. I don’t think I have felt this good EVER!
So why do I tell you that? Because I want you to know that if you are searching for a way to get healthier, to loose weight, or improve your life, it all takes time. It takes trying things out, and finding out what works for you. Be patient with yourself, there is A LOT to learn. But it all comes at the perfect time.
Being so passionate about food makes me very observant of others. I see so many of my friends and family who want to eat healthier but are still buying conventional foods full of pesticides that are very harmful to the body. If you want to create a healthy change here is a tip that will help you.
BUY ORGANIC, NON GMO FOOD! It is really that simple. But there is a trick to it and it takes a little bit of more effort on your part when you go food shopping but I promise you, you will feel the difference!
Allow your consciousness to connect to the purpose of food. Why do you want to eat ORGANIC NON GMO foods? Because you are feeding your Physical Body the nutrients it needs to stay healthy. Your body is your temple, can you treat it like it deserves to be treated? Treat your body like a sacred temple and your mind and habits will change.
So how do you tell if the food you buy at the store is ORGANIC? When looking at loose fruit and vegetables at the store, look at the PLU number. If the food is ORGANIC the PLU number will be 5 digits long beginning with the number 9. If it is not organic, it will have only 4 digits. For example, ORGANIC bananas have a PLU of 94011, while conventional bananas have a PLU of 4011, which means the food was treated with harmful chemicals and pesticides. A PLU that has 5 digits and begins with an 8 means the food was genetically modified. Genetically modified food is fake food, it is the farthest thing from natural you can find. We don’t even know all of the effects that genetically modified food has on the human body, but what we do know so far is alarming.
It is best to eat ORGANIC non processed food, but when you do need to purchase processed foods or other products besides fruits and veggies look for the NON-GMO VERIFIED sticker.
This way you know you are eating the healthiest you can. If you are a meat eater, make sure to buy GRASS FED and GRASS FINISHED products because you’ll be amazed at some of the things they give animals to eat, which then you eat when you consume that animal.
When you change your habits, your body will notice the shift. Sometimes your body, and especially your mind will try to fight against you. But your SOUL is stronger than that and it knows you are trying. Trust in the process of cleansing yourself of these harmful chemicals, pesticides and toxins and one day you will look back and be so proud of yourself for taking that first step towards a healthier, brighter, and happier you.
